What exactly are you doing?
This is a question I have been getting from numerous people over the past several weeks and one that has a simple answer, which my friends in small business will easily understood.
Simply put, I want to help the entrepreneurs of the world expand profits, prosperity, and liberty. I’ve worked with entrepreneurs for a long time and have been one myself.
Everyone then wants to know how I’m going to do that. I’m going to do it by bringing together and synthesizing the best resources available for the small business owner. The good news it that there is much we can do about what is currently a very stark situation for small business owners.
We will get into the HOW with each new post. In a nutshell we will showcase the numerous ways small business owners can leverage technology to increase productivity. Increased productivity leads to more profits and time.
Time?
- Yes, you as a small business owner (or anyone for that matter) are going to need time to get involved.
Getting Involved to Protect Small Business
Involved with what?
- Only you can answer that question. It may be your local school board, city council, state legislature, or even as a house member or Senator in Washington D.C. The fact of the matter is you will need time and money to get involved.
- A majority of small business owners I’ve met over the years are very politically aware. Small business owners also know how bad economic policies affect their business and society as a whole.
- The only way things will change for the small business owner is if enough people get involved in the political process. We need people from all backgrounds that have a similar foundation of principles from which to operate.
Small Business Under Attack
It is no secret that small business is under attack in our country. It is under attack from big government and big business. Big business and big government are the poster children for the “Status Quo.”
The net effect of this attack to maintain the status quo is less innovation. When innovation is stifled we all suffer as a society. Innovation is the catalyst that drives productivity and the economy. Author, Andy Kessler, explains it best in his book, How We Got Here: A Slightly Irreverent History of Technology and Markets
Strength In Small Numbers
There is strength in numbers and you will be pleasantly surprised to know that it does not take a very large number of people to effect change.
G. Edward Griffin, author of The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve,
talks about the number of people controlling our lives. Mr. Griffin states that there are approximately 3,000 people nationwide that control our society. Within this circle of 3,000 is a much smaller circle that is actually pulling the strings. Mr. Griffin’s example reminds me of the scene in The Wizard of Oz, where the curtain is pulled back exposing the great ruler of Oz.
There have also been some scientific studies conducted which have concluded that it only takes one percent of any given population to affect change. That change can be good or bad, it’s up to you.
Fasten Your Seatbelt
We are going for a ride together and this journey may last a very long time. Sometimes the road will be smooth other times it will be rough but it will be exciting and we can say we did our part to make things better by getting involved and holding people, including ourselves, accountable.

Great looking site Scott. I can’t wait to be involved with in it some productive manner. I hope this helps.
Brent,
Glad you could visit. I will have you involved in a good way in no time.
Haha.. I love that picture from the Wizard of Oz
Thanks Scott and best wishes with you new venture. Might I suggest that you add a blogroll or similar set of links to sites from like minded folks? I think it would help us all to understand that we are not alone and would give most of your readers new sources of ideas, resources, etc. BTW, I enjoyed your FTC disclosures. I might have to add something similar to my blog.
Tom
Tom,
Thanks for the suggestion on the blog roll. That is a fantastic idea which I’ve seen on other blog sites.
It is nice to realize we are not alone in this adventure.
Way to go Scotty! From the days of delivering the Lansing State Journal for 7 years, mowing lawns and shoveling snow in Ithaca, I’m a small business Entrepreneur! I just wrote an email to the LA City Council today about disability cuts. My company does closed captioning & subtitling. I have the lovely distinction of living in CA where we’re represented by a couple of not so wonderful Senators. I can’t believe all the line items of individual taxes we pay to this wonderful state. Two of my four kids are home schooled now because of 40 kids in each class. Good thing I have a free mountain in my backyard that I can mtn. bike, run and hike. Looking forward to hearing more.
Matt,
We both have traveled similar paths. I’ve met so many good people out there with great ideas that it has inspired me to put this together. At the end of the day it really is about accountability and doing the right thing for everyone, if your an elected official. It really does not take that many people to turn the tide and make a difference.
Small business owners seem to have a very good understanding of this I think because they are always forced to run to efficiently or they are out of business.
It is a sad world we live in these days.. Most people are more concerned about who is going to advance on “The American Idol” that they have forgotten the very principles which made this country in the first place. We have lost the reap what you sew mentality and have converted into a MTV society.. Luckily there are plenty of people who are willing to put forth the effort in order to be rewarded for honest hard labor!
I am looking forward to the next entry!
